Covington, Washington is located in the hills of East King County, between Kent and Maple Valley. The location at the junction of state route 516 and Hwy 18 makes it convenient to reach surrounding towns and area workplaces. Two major shopping areas are nearby in downtown Covington, and along the Maple Valley-Black Diamond Road, offering many choices for retail shopping, groceries, services, dining and more.

Residents and visitors enjoy the many parks and trails in Covington and the surrounding area. Lake Wilderness Park with its lake and lodge is an attraction for events and outdoor activities. Pedestrian and bike trails run throughout the town and connect through to regional trails like the Cedar River Trail. Hwy 18 runs north to I-90 for access to the towns and recreation of Snoqualmie Valley and Snoqualmie Pass.
